Days between two dates

There are 365 days from January 1 to December 31, 2026, counting both dates, and 250 of them are business days after federal holidays. Pick your own dates below.

“Today” comes from your device’s clock. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

How the days are counted

The calculator subtracts one calendar date from the other.

Days = end date − start dateAdd 1 when you count both dates. Weeks = days ÷ 7, with the remainder in days.

  1. Calendar daysJanuary 1 to January 31 is 30 days apart, or 31 days when you count both the 1st and the 31st.
  2. Business daysOnly Monday through Friday count, over the same set of days. With the federal holiday box ticked, the weekday each federal holiday is observed on is skipped too.
  3. MonthsWhole calendar months first, then the leftover days. From January 31, one month later is the last day of February.

In brackets: weekdays minus federal days off. A year can have 12 days off when New Year’s Day of the next year falls on a Saturday and is observed on December 31.

Federal holidays follow 5 U.S.C. 6103: a Saturday holiday is observed the Friday before and a Sunday holiday the Monday after. The business-day count uses these rules for 1971 and later; earlier dates count weekdays only.

Questions

Should I include the end date?
Include it when both dates are days that count, like the first and last day of a trip or a contract. Leave it out when you want the gap between two dates, like the days from today until a deadline.
What counts as a business day?
Monday through Friday. With “Skip federal holidays” on, the federal days off listed by OPM are removed too, using the weekday a weekend holiday moves to. State holidays and company closures are not included.
Does daylight saving time change the count?
No. The calculator counts calendar dates, not hours, so the short day in March and the long day in November each count as one day.
